In this cut we took some of the feedback on form from focus groups and altered certain cuts to create accurate lip syncing and a smooth polished video.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

An interview conducted with the artist of the music video and digipak pieces gives great insight into their thoughts on how well they think all of their products combined to create one coherent piece. This interview outlines planning and important decisions made in order to brig these 3 products together so they would work in synergy. For example the photographer on the site of the music video shoot is effective in ensuring the same miss en scene is used throughout. Post production decisions made about indoor studio shoots for Digipaks is also important as these were the images most frequent in the digipak and digipak poster.

Evaluation: What have you learnt from audience Feedback

user feedback survey

Powered by emaze

In this focus group we showed our video to year 11s who are currently making their own music videos. This would provide us with feedback on a simple level to make sure the basics of our video are correct. For example showing our video to a large group pointed out all of our syncing flaws so we could correct these. They also had opinions on how the actors fit the roles in our genre. Positive feedback means that we may not need to re shoot elements with different Mise En Scene. In this task we made sure to ask a variety of different audiences about our video relating to our target audience of teenagers. A main aim of this video was appealing to the target audience of 12-19 year olds which I believe we have done successfully through these group discussions.

In this video we questioned an older age bracket with some experience in media editing to get some more in depth feedback on how to improve our video. Most comments were positive and the audience here recognised some advanced editing such as the change in speed of shots. The constructive criticism we received was useful as it outlined elements of our video which not everyone agreed were fitting with the whole product. Sections such as the can kicking may be subject to change due to these comments.

We have also received feedback from our YouTube video page suggesting that some think very
highly of our video in terms of quality. I was important to have a few variations of feedback platforms as this allowed us to share our video with different kinds of people who my share different views on certain aspects of our video. Varied feedback is the best for improving our video to attract a large target audience.

The Survey Monkey and Youtube comments allowed us to get un censored feedback as there would be no agendas to for-fill. Honest feedback is the best kind of feedback as it points out flaws which friends and family may not have the courage topping out.

Evaluation: Used Developed and challenged conventions

Our music video is effective in using the vital codes conventions which ultimately separate a music video from a short film. However also develops some aspects as well as challenges some such as pauses and the theme of our genre in some cases. Andrew Goodwin argues that there are a few basics which must be included in a music video. These we have used such as showing the star; relating the visuals and sounds; having narrative and performance aspects as well as using the beat of the song. It was key to include this but to also challenge aspects to prevent to the audience a unique and forward thinking video.

A large portion of our product was also the Digipak and Digipak poster. I conducted a lot of research into professional Digipaks as well as student made ones to see what worked well and what needs to be improved. One example I found often when looking at previous students work was typography. Extremely bold fonts where used making the product look less professional at times. This is why I stayed away from using bold and expressive fonts as it would not have fitted our genre of Indie rap.

Digipak Panels first draft

Digipak Construction: Panel 4

With my final panel I needed to create an image which could sit underneath my CD.

I used the picture with the backwards cap as it matches my video and also has more high key lighting to see facial expressions.

I duplicated then rated the image and cut off the background of the image to mirror this.

I mirrored this just from the bottom originally but then decided to mirror the image from the top of the jacket.

I believe that this was more effective as it looks like two people stuck together.

I did this from the top of the of the shoulders in the end.

Digipak Construction: Back Cover 2

Firstly i removed the logo from the hat as it would interfere with the typography of my album songs.

I used the sample tool swell as the patch tool to recreate the lining and colour.

I then cropped the image to be at the same height as the front cover so that when closed the CD covers would be proportional.

I added my record label as well as institutional information along the bottom to match codes and conventions of Digipaks.

I removed the large NINE TEEN and STRESSED OUT writing from the top after feedback that it out shadows the front cover and is necessary. It left a black background which is more effective is covey darkness and being lost. Therefore working in synergy with my video to convey the same message.

Digipak Construction: Inside Cover

For my inside cover I wanted a picture of the drummer, Morti, as the artist is a band and not just the main singer. In this slide I have used a straight on close up of Morti and microphone silhouettes.

I rubbed out the two outer images to just have the two centre microphones for my image as the background of my photo is dull so there is no need to show it.

I used a white background as it is a contrast to the rest of my Digipak. This shows a contrast between the two characters in my music video.

Digipak construction: Back cover

For this section of my digipak i am experimenting with this picture taken from the video.

I have written out a song list for the CD and have tried out a few different fonts off of Dafont to use.

I have used the wand tool to remove the black writing so that the logo here blends into the image more.

Digipak Construction: Front cover attempt 2

With this panel I took 3 photos overlap them which would convey different sides to one person.

I first added the three images lined them up and changed the opacity of two.

I Then rubbed out the photos where they overlapped the main image facing forwards.

I decided the leave the opacity on the chain to make it more visual for the audience and the make the image less static.

After I experimented with typography using Parental Advisory as well as record labels.

I decided not to use the Parental advisory as I want the audience to focus on the image not the Typography mainly. The black background makes the typography more visual for the audience.

Digipak Poster Construction

For my poster I wanted to use an image of the main character with all the visual props in the video such as the cap and gold chain. This image taken created an effect of light to dark in the background which would be perfect to create a visual poster.

I chose the Lemon Milk font to use for my date of release as it is bold but not boring.

I then created a black backing which slightly overlaps the image.

So my poster matched the effects of my CD. I duplicated the chain and put the opacity at 50%. This makes the chain more visual in the image.

For my typography i used boxes to let the text be more visual and to also fit in with the typical codes and conventions of a digipak poster.

I changed the typography on Dafont to separate this text from my Title and Band name.

To add some movement to my poster i duplicated the image and blurred the hands to make this less static and more engaging for the audience.

I finally added lens flare to my picture to fill the dull background and to add some more artificial light to my piece to match the codes of indie rap high key lighting.
