The music video She's So Lovely is a film where the lyrics are amplified by the woman in the video and the contents of it. I believe that this video and many others like it can be very negative to some audiences and proves that the media has an influence in the way people view things. The video can be seen as negative when the audience is passive. If the audience is passive in this video they would believe that women are sexual objects and have little personality. The Effects Model suggests that the audience is weak and will be affected by what's shown and believe its contents. The Hypodermic needle explains that an audience is injected with false information that then is seen as true showing how bad the media can effect some audiences. A large majority of pop songs include women just to appeal to the male heterosexual audience. Drakes Hotline Bling is a great example of this where women are used purely to attract this audience. I feel that young people are the most vulnerable to this kind of brainwashing. A child watching music videos may be raised thinking that this is the way women are treated.
Some audiences may use these types of videos to escape from their normal lives. Media is often used this way as people with the perfect life are often shown. Audiences that may be alone or bored may use this video to escape into a world with beautiful women all around. Sexual stimulation is also a large part of the media for audiences in the 21st century. Videos such as this may be used for these reasons when the audience obeys the Uses and Gratifications model. An active audience will use a music video for a purpose or may have an opinion on it.
She Said by Plan B is a great example of a music video which audiences can escape or relate to. This music video explains the story of a man being falsely accused of rape and his tine in court. People who have been unfairly treated may relate to this music video and agree with the message being told. Some audiences may escape using this video as well by realising that their life is a lot better than they think. This video also encourages the audience to have an opinion on the story. If the audience is passive and not observant they may believe the side of the women and agree that she has been a victim. However an active audience who is engaged by the video may see the side of the man and use this to educate themselves.
This task has helped me learn about how different people receive certain content and how it varies depending on age and social class. I believe that age has more of an effect on how certain content is viewed as people brought up at different times will have different views. Grime videos are sometimes a good example of media texts being received wrongly as audiences see the view of how some young people represent themselves and then think that all young people the same as this. Stormzys Shut up music video is an example of this exaggerating the stereotypes of young people which are that they hang around getting up to no good.
